Arkansas River in Canon City Colorado

The Arkansas river is in the center of Canon City, or rather, Canon City surrounds the Arkansas River. I went down to the pedestrian bridge just past 4th street and highway 50 to hopefully see some rafters. I was either to early or to late to see any rafters.  As you can see the river is very, very high right now.  So I thought I’d share the river with you rafters or not.  This year the Colorado Rockies had some great snow pack. In fact Arapahoe Basin was open over the 4th of July weekend, it still has some snow. Because the snow pack was so good this year the river is running high.

I’m taking these pictures from the pedestrian bridge near 4th and highway 50. The bridge is between Duck Park and Veterans Park. Parking is usually good.  And this bridge is walking distance from the Royal Gorge Rail Road. The dinosaur museum is right there as well. Today is July 5, 2011 and the temp was staying around 100 degrees. The parks were full, and people were enjoying the river.
