Skyline Drive Canon City Colorado

Even locals love to drive Skyline Drive in Canon City Colorado once in awhile. It’s called “3 miles of adrenelane  and once you have done the drive or seen the pictures you’ll know why. The road is laid on top of a mountain ridge. The mountain and city views from the top are awesome. But if you are the driver you better keep your eyes on the VERY narrow road. It’s not uncommon for people to drive off the edge for an unhappy ending.

Skyline Drive offers views of the mountains, Highway 50 below on one side and the City of Canon City on the other side. Part way up you can stop momentarily and see the inverted foot prints from the dinosaurs that once lived here. There are just a couple of very small pull outs for those who are brave enough to park and get out of the car.

Start your trip on Skyline Drive from the West edge of Canon City before you head up the hill to the Royal Gorge Bridge. The short trip will only take you a few minutes depending on traffic on the road. Skyline Drive ends on the North side of Canon City near Floral Ave and the historic homes in town.

Its primary prohibition makes it unlawful to refuse to sell, rent to, or negotiate with any person because of that person’s inclusion in a protected class.

I don’t know about loving it, it still bothers me in a couple of places, but it is worth the drive to watch the reaction of anyone coming from the flat lands. Be prepared to be cussed at if they are even slightly afraid of heights. Awesome place though. Including the dinosaur tracks.
