Custer County Colorado is best know for the towns of Westcliffe, SilverCliffe and Bishops Castle. Take Highway 96 from Wetmore up Hard Scrabble along Grape Creek and you may get lucky and see a few big horn sheep. These pictures were taken Jan 3,2011 around 4 in the afternoon. Hang around McKenzie Junction long enough and they may find you. Watch for deer, elk and stray cattle along the road as well.
McKenzie Junction Colorado McKenzie Junction sits at the top on Hard Scrabble between Wetmore and Westcliffe. From there you can head south toward Bishops Castle and Rye. It is literally a cross roads for people to meet up, bike rides to start and animals to stop traffic. McKenzie sits in Custer County and in the San Isabel Forest. Every where you look are views of Hardsrcabble Creek, Granite Walls and wild life. Normally not a destination but a point to travel thru or around, McKenzie Junction is a beautiful place to stop and enjoy the Wet Mountains.
